Who should sign up?

Does your child enjoy playing chess online and/or with family members and friends, and wants to become a better player?

Students in the Beginner Level 1 class will learn:

Foundations & Legalities

  • The Grid – Understanding ranks, files, diagonals, and square names (e.g., e4, c6).

  • The Infantry – How the Pawn moves, attacks, and its initial two-square option.

  • The Heavy Artillery – Rook and Bishop movement profiles and their structural differences.

  • The Royal Court – Queen movement freedom versus the restricted, vital steps of the King.

  • The L-Shaped Leap – Master the Knight's jumping ability and navigating crowded boards.

  • Special Pawn Laws – Promotion mechanics and the execution of the en passant capture rule.

  • The King’s Shield – Castling conditions, execution, and when it is legally illegal.

  • Defining the End – Differentiating between Check, Checkmate, and Stalemate.

Absolute Board Vision

  • Counting the Loot – Traditional piece values (1, 3, 3, 5, 9) and static trade evaluations.

  • The Target List – Identifying undefended "hanging" pieces on the board in 3 seconds.

  • Two-Step Verification – Developing the mental checklist to prevent immediate piece blunders.

  • The Ladder Mate – Executing the two-Rook checkmate pattern against a lonely King.

  • The Box Method – Restricting the enemy King using a lone Queen and King.

Golden Rules of the Opening

  • Staking a Claim – Why occupying and controlling the e4, d4, e5, d5 squares matters.

  • Cavalry First – Why developing Knights before Bishops prevents tactical traffic jams.

  • Shelter the Ruler – Prioritizing rapid castling within the first 5 to 10 moves.

  • Theft in the Opening – The dangers of hunting distant pawns with your Queen early.

Elementary Tactics

  • The Absolute Pin – Immobilizing a piece because moving it exposes the King.

  • The Relative Pin – Exploiting a piece trapped in front of a higher-value asset.

  • Forking Paths – Executing simultaneous double-attacks using Knights and Pawns.

  • The Skewer – Forcing a valuable piece away to capture the weaker defender behind it.
